Garth and Ryan leave for California Thursday the 24th to compete in the 2009 US Beach Volleyball Open. Ryan and Garth competed in all 3 events of the Volleybrawl Tour and took 1st place in points overall! As the 1st Annual Volleybrawl champs, not only did they win CA$H at each tournament, they won their entry into the 2009 US Beach Volleyball Open. We gave them some extra spending money and we are going to tell their story right here.
Starting Thursday, September 24, watch here for frequent updates and photos on their amazing journey. Email your comments and show your support, and we will post them here as well. We are very proud to have the McGinley brothers represent the Mid-Atlantic region in Manhattan Beach, CA this weekend!
09/24/2009 9:05AM - Met with Garth last night to to wish he and his brother the best. They are leaving right about now to Cali and due to land around 11:30AM (PST). I also learned that they do NOT have to play in Friday's qualifier, their first match is Saturday morning. Rumor has it the Player's Party Friday night will see the likes of Karch!
09/25/2009 2:58PM - Landed safe and sound yesterday, but not without incident. Ry had trouble with the parking lot and missed his flight. We still got settled in time to hit the beach for a bit. Crossing Manhattan Beach blvd (pic enclosed) and seeing the beach, ocean, & courts was awesome. The sand was UNBELIEVABLE and felt almost like talcum powder. Later we ventured south for some food & to check out the famed MB pier. The courts were all up & ready for the friday qualifier. The darkness and the atmosphere had my mind envisioning ghosts of volleyball past and the countless great players that have gracef this sand.
Heading down to check out the qualifier right now. Also been posting on twitter so maybe u can follow me on there & I'll send longer updates and pics via email.

09/26/2009 10:40AM - Morning of the main draw - getting ready to head over. We went down to check out some of the qualifier and bumped in to some familiar eaat coast faces: the Ellis brothers, Saidu & Mike Salek, Ty Hart & Danny Carter. The open qualifier saw teams battling for 7 spots in the main draw. There was some great volleyball & a few big name players yesterday. Today should be vball heaven. The pic is a look at the venue from off of the MB pier. Just a few feet down are the plaques of the past MB open winners dating back 50 years.
09/26/2009 1:32PM - First match over - lost a close one to the 5th seed 21-19, 21-17. Reffing now & waiting for our next match.

09/26/2009 5:53PM - Dropped our loser's bracket match to dana camacho & dane jensen. Tough draw for us losing to the 5th seed and the 12th seed. Lots of great vball going on.
